Triplicity…by J.Mercer

Triplicity…by J.Mercer

Navy, Isaiah, and Jesse are teens traveling with their families on an Alaskan cruise.  While enjoying their vacation they must solve the mystery of who is committing thefts on board the ship.   A mystery aboard a cruise. Yes, please. I have never read a story that takes place on a cruise ship. This story has so much potential. A ship with everyone trapped on board while crimes are taking place could really be interesting.   What I Loved: First, there were a few things I really loved about the story. I loved the details about the ports of call. I loved the touristy places they visited.  I also really loved the mystery. It was fun but not too scary. Ray vs. The Meaning of Life…by Michael F. Stewart

Ray vs. The Meaning of Life…by Michael F. Stewart

Ray must figure out the meaning of life in order to be the beneficiary of his late grandmother’s will. At stake is the trailer park where he and his whole family live and work. In the process of finding the meaning of life, Ray begins to experience life and change the way he lives it. The concept of this book is wonderful. A teenager must experience the world around him in order to earn a great reward. This concept intrigued me and I couldn’t wait to figure out what would happen with Ray and his family. The story started out both sad and odd. Ray’s grandmother is killed in a freak run-in with a grizzly bear. Then in a turn of events ,that reminds me of a Simpson’s episode, a surgical team arrives in a  helicopter and freezes grandma’s brain. […]

Right Where You Left Me…by Calla Devlin

Right Where You Left Me…by Calla Devlin

‘Right Where You Left Me’ is the story of Charlotte. Her mother is a Russian immigrate who works in the bakery downstairs from their apartment. Charlotte’s father is a larger than life newspaper reporter who loves to be the first on the ground during natural disasters. At the very begging of ‘Right Where You Left Me’, Charlotte’s father leaves for Ukraine to cover an earthquake. Her father soon becomes missing. Charlotte’s shared experience with her mother of worrying about Charlotte’s father draws them both closer together and further apart. I began reading ‘Right Where You Left Me’ the day before hurricane Irma hit here in Florida. It was an interesting surprise to find out that this story was about someone who covered natural disasters. I loved that this was a fresh topic that hasn’t been touched on much in YA. […]
