Pretty in Punxsutawney…by Laurie Boyle Crompton

Pretty in Punxsutawney…by Laurie Boyle Crompton

Favorite Quotes   ‘Couples like this are even worse than those first-date pairings where the awkwardness is so palpable, they should have to buy it a separate ticket’.   ‘I’ve always loved the way the city is surrounded by three rivers that make a Y where the Monongahela and the Allegheny become the Ohio River, forcing the city into a point.’   ‘Sometimes, we’re simply enjoying whatever day we happen to be in.’   ‘Being a girl is not a competition.’   My Review   Andie moves to Punxsutawney P.A. before the beginning of her senior year. When she falls asleep watching ‘Pretty in Pink’, before her first day of school, everything goes south.  The next day she wakes up to the same day she just finished. Andie must figure out how to get out of her perpetual first day of school in […]

Confessions of a High School Disaster…by Emma Chastain

Confessions of a High School Disaster…by Emma Chastain

Confessions of a High School Disaster is the first installment of the Chloe Snow series. I read the second installment first and enjoyed it so much that I decided to go back and read ‘Confessions of a High School Disaster’. In this book Chloe is just about to start high school. Her immaturity definitely shows through in this book. This makes sense as she is just at the beginning of both high school and her parents divorce. The combination of these two things definitely would push Chloe to concentrate on more important things than basic teenage stuff ( i.e. being a kissing virgin). I think divorce is an important topic for YA to tackle as its something many teens must work through and I think COAHSD did it well. One of the most eye-opening aspects for me was Chloe was […]

Chasing Eveline…by Leslie Hauser

Chasing Eveline…by Leslie Hauser

Ivy is desperate to connect with the mother who abandoned Ivy and her dad. The closest connection she has to her mother is their mutual love of the 1980’s band ‘Chasing Eveline’. Ivy and her friend Matt mount several schemes to raise money for a trip to Ireland. Once in Ireland they hope to reunite ‘Chasing Eveline’. Ivy secretly hopes that her mother will be at the bands reunion. This was such a cute read. I loved all the crazy (‘I Love Lucy’ type) projects that Matt and Ivy used to make money. Ivy has big ideas that never quite worked out the way she planned. I really loved the perseverance that Ivy had to never give up on her dream. I loved the relationship Ivy had with her dad. I think it was a unique perspective to have a single […]
