‘You’re my best friend! You’re better than my winter-spring-summer friends.’ I am pretty new to graphic novels so when I won a copy of ‘Pumpkin Heads’ on GoodReads I was super excited. ‘Pumpkinheads’ is written by Rainbow Rowell and illustrated by Faith Erin Hicks. It tells the story of two friends who work at their local fall festival each year ( the story takes place during one shift). Since I love Rainbow Rowell, I love fall festivals, and I adore Autumn I was super excited about Pumpkinheads. The illustrations were amazing. I particularly loved the map of the fall theme park. The colors were all in Autumn tones so they really set the scene well ( I could almost smell the pumpkin). One of my favorite parts was learning about all the cool snacks that Deja ate […]

You’ll be waking up soon, it’s Christmas Eve in Helsingborg, and I’ve killed a person. An absentee father who is more worried about making lots of money than raising his son seeks to explain his actions. It includes a Backman style twist at the end. Fredrik Backman writes some of my favorites characters (Ove, Britt-Marie, Elsa’s grandmother). So, I was hoping for some fun and quirky characters in this short Christmas novella. I quickly found out that this was not the case. It is a story about morality and it is meant to get you thinking about what is important in life. While not my favorite Backman book it will definitely was worth reading. At well under 100 pages, it is also a quick read. Well worth giving an hour or so of your reading time.
Cute Christmas anthology of various genres from my fellow YA Book Central reviewers. I discovered some great new authors and got into the holiday spirit. A few of my favorites were: ‘After Checkmate’ by Amalie Jahn, ‘Young Saint Nick’ by Angela Blount, and ‘Choices’ by Patrick Hodges
I admit that I’m not a big anthology fan. I find the stories in them are hit and miss. ‘My True Love Gave to Me’ was a choice for one of my on-line book clubs. I thought it would help me to get into the holiday spirit and to acquaint me with some new authors. I’m really late putting up this review but I loved many of the stories and wanted to talk about which ones I loved and which one I didn’t love. Midnight: Rainbow Rowell This story features Noël and Mags and their growing relationship every New Years from 2011-2014. I really liked this one. The premise of just having snippets of a character’s life for several years really made the story enrolling. It was fun piecing together what was going on in the characters life the […]
